What ever happened to the guys from Face Dancer? They use to get together for reunion gigs, but I haven't heard a thing from them in awhile.

Scott,
Would be great for another FD reunion show!!
You can catch BJ Weigman with his new band Pheonix Rising. BJ is a long-time member of FaceDancer and was also an original member of VoiceBox.

BJ is great and really added a lot to the band, but FD just doesnt seem like FD without Scott McGinn. I'd like to see the "THIS WORLD" line up with McGinn, Trainor, Adams, Utter and Kress.

I know that Jeff Adams the original guitar player is in a new band called Starkey Drive. I just got their new CD and it's awesome but don't expect to hear Face Dancer. Their web site is www.starkeydrive.com

No, Jeff Adams was the original guitarist in Face Dancer and was the one who played on Red Shoes from their first album. He also played on their second album as well. His new band Starkey Drive is awesome. I also found out their playing at a club called Jammin' Java in VA on Feb 1st

I've never heard of Face Dancer - any CDs floating around out there to buy or samples to hear?

Also, you gotta love a band named after a DUNE race. Awesome!

Face Dancer was huge in the 80's. They did 2 albums. One was called "This World" which is by far their best one and then they changed the lineup for the second album "About Face". At that time Jeff Adams was who every lead guitar wanted to be. A major guitar hero at that time who sounds even better now with his new band Starkey Drive. Although Starkey Drive sounds nothing like Face Dancer it has lot's of cool guitar stuff and some great tunes. Highly recommend. You can probably snatch a CD of off their website if they have one.

They do have a website but you can't really do much on it, maybe it was my pc but I wanted to buy a CD but it wouldn't take me to any other screen. I e-mailed them but never heard back. This world is definitely worth buying not only for the memories but some good tunes as well.

Yes, Jeff Adams was in Monarch. I believe his brother Marc played drums. Dan Hays played bass. Can't remember the other guitar player's name.

This is from Scott McGinn. We last did an FD reunion in 2005. Mike Milsap, from the second album, was also there. Right now, there are no firm plans for another reunion, but it is possible, and would feature the THIS World line-up. I am currently working on a biography of the band, starting with when I joined the"Original Band" in 1975. Carey Kress was in that version, as drummer. It was good to read everyone's comments.Feel free to e-mail me.

Interesting if there are two guys named Jeff Adams who were great guitar players in Maryland around the same time, but you could be right. I even saw a reference to a Jeff Adams playing with Crack the Sky.... I think Monarch was still going when Face Dancer hit the scene, since I know I photographed them (Monarch) in '81 at, I believe, Louie's Rock City. I checked out the photos on Starkey Drive but I didn't know the Monarch Jeff Adams well enough to say if there's any resemblance....

Would love to see FaceDancer. My brother turned me on to FD in 1981, when I was 15, along with KIX and other PA/MD area bands. I was living in Seattle, and my brother came to visit. He took me to see the KIX on the "are for Kids" tour, at the Seattle Center Arena, and took me backstage to meet the guys. Was singing in bands after that for over 15 years.

Let me know if there is a way to get any CD's of FD, I assume the first two where on vinyl only. I would be interested in buying CD or downloading, if unavailable for purchase. (of course my favorite is This World).

Man, you wern't kidding when you said Starkey Drive was "No Facedancer." Sounds like Jeff Adams took a page out of the Tony Scuito(Little River Band) playbook. I know Ass Kicking R&R can't go on forever. I guess it's the "making a living" thing....but it sure does SUCK!

Any way I can find "This World"? I saw FD many times and started playing all the same clubs starting in 82. I teach guitar to kids here in PVB and they know all the old classic rock stuff. I turned them all on to KIX and it's now one of the fav bands in their High School. I've told them that the real deal was Face Dancer. They have been searching on line and have found Red Shoes and love it. If I could find This World it would take PVB by storm. Can you help?

My sister Peggy is good friends with the band. She lives in St. Croix U.S.V.I. now. Last time she was up, Thanksgiving) we down to DC and met up with Carey, David Hoover and a few other old timers that I am too young to remember. We went to see a band called "Downtown". Carey looked great at dinner. Peggy is coming back stateside to visit for a week on August 10.

Thanks Scott. I would make both shows but I'm booked on the 25th so I'm looking forward to the RHL show. I got the word about Carey passing, I figured he was not doing well since I saw Spike was doing vocals for the shows. My condolences to all of the Face Dancer family. He was a tremendous front man w/great stage presence, sense of humor and seemed like an all around really nice guy. It's very sad but I will say that the shows will help all that knew him and/or followed the band...

I too grew up listening to Face Dancer, among the other great bands that came out of Baltimore in the 80s. My friend emailed me this morning regarding Carey's passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and fans. I have the original Face Dancer album still, went to the 2005 Seagull Reunion in Parkville..all great people. BJ will have to come see your band.I'm sure you rock. Hope Gina is well. See Jude every now and then in OC. Gotta hear his band yet the Sophies.

Again RIP Carey Kress..you are remembered by many and cared by all.

Scott,
The show at RHL was excellent! In fact the whole lineup was great! I appreciate you guys signing the album sleeve and I agree I hate white sleeves! It was a blast hearing those songs again and when you said "enjoy the show" I had no doubt about that! The book was a good read and the pics brought back alot of memories (in my case probably every show you ever did at the Sandbar and a few at the Hollywood Palace & Seagull). It's funny I saw Spike for the first time doing vocals for Carl Filipiak at Rams Head in Annapolis a couple mths back and was very impressed (I still have to catch his band sometime) and he really did Carey proud Saturday night! Here's hoping the Parkville show happens! Bill

Thanks Bill, for your recent message. I am pleased that you liked my book "That World - My Life in a Band Called FACE DANCER." It has been selling very well and the response I have received has been very positive. If anyone else is interested in purchasing a copy they can go to www.thefidders.com and it is available under the merchandise tab.

The show that was originally scheduled to take place in Parkville in August is not going to happen. In fact, at this time, I do not plan to continue playing with the band. David Utter and I are busy putting together a new project that we are calling THE FIDDERS. You can keep up with our schedule by visiting www.thefidders.com or by writing me at face.dancer@yahoo.com

Thanks for your continued support and I hope to see you at an upcoming FIDDERS show.

I know the band Monarch well. My boyfriend ran the light show for a period of time, and the band sponsored our softball team. All us girlfriends were friends and classmates. The fourth guy, the first one to leave the band, was Pete. Jeff, Mark, also known as AD, who were brothers, and Danny who played bass, and Pete on rythym guitar. Those were the days! I miss hearing the song, Wanting You Back. I wish we had the technology then that we have now and I'd probably have a video of them. :(

I was the drummer for a band "Stinger" that opened for "Facedancer" at the Seagull back around `79. Kenny, lead guitar, was a doorman at the Seagull at the time. Roy Bush,  guitar/keyboard player, and I taught at Perry Hall Music Studio. Roy's girlfriend, Shelly, did lead vocals and bass. Gene ??? was our lead vocal/front man. Any pictures of us?

I still have a "Jeff Adams Monarch" guitar pick around here somewhere.... Lost my Face Dancer tape to a theft in Santa Barbara back in the 80s. Glad to see it's available again. Finally! Danny Hays I hope you're still jammin' out there somewhere bro.

Jeff Adams from Monarch is a good friend of mine. He is still in the area but not performing any longer. He is still involved in music. His brother Mark(A.D.) is still playing drums. I believe he is out in Arizona.

Actually there were two Jeff Adams in Balto/Washington in the late 70s/early 80s.  One in Monarch and one in Face Dancer.  No relation.

Oh yeah, we filmed our first music video for a song off the new record. Don't worry... we still play Red Shoes at EVERY SHOW. See you soon, we hope.
